On the 14th June 2017 fire engulfed Grenfell Tower on the Lancaster West Estate in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, West London. 72 people lost their lives.

On the 10th August  2017 Southwark Council finally disconnected the gas supply to the tower blocks on the Ledbury Estate following safety issues that had eventually been taken seriously after many years of campaigning.

On the 21st December 2021 two year old Awaab Ishak died due to breathing problems caused by the black mould in the flat where he lived.

There were 774 fires in high rise housing in England and Wales in 2021. The work consists of 774 small sculptures in various stages of distress and distortion. With 72 red enamel squares to mark the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
